The Gordon Rocks are ideal to see hammerhead sharks in Galapagos
At 07:00 in the morning our taxi pick up uou in your Hotel and tranfer to Itabaca Canal, where anchors the Nautilus Diving Yacht.
Once aboard an orientation and safety breefing is done. Cruising time is used to do the briefing, to form the diving groups and equipment check. Already at the dive site each group go to dinghies, and approximate to the point of descent. During the dive we can see hammerhead sharks, rays, turtles and various schools of fish. After the first dive, during the surface interval, it is time for Snak, rehydrate and prepare for the second dive. Due to the presence of current, we recommend Gordon Rocks for divers with intermediate and advanced levels. Beginners and participants of the Discovery Scuba Diving experience made the dive in the South Plaza Island.
At the end of the diving a box lunch awaits us in the lounge Yacht Nautilus. It's time to cruise to Canal Itabaca, there waits the shuttle that will take us to Puerto Ayora and Hotel.
Check availabilityIs located off the east coast of Santa Cruz. It is an extinct volcano formed by three emerging rocks off the surface The currents here can be strong, ideal for advanced divers. Here is where we find the famous schools of hammerhead sharks, Galapagos sharks, blacktip sharks and white tip, morays, eagle rays, and sea lions. Gordon Rocks has several diving spots; the most commonly used is the crater that is formed by volcanic walls and fallen rocks, with a bottom of sand and rocks to 22-30 meters deep. In the center of the crater 25 meters deep, it is a volcanic rock from where you can see hammerheadsharks swimming around, only suitable for advanced divers. Another very good place for watching hammerheads is between the three pinnacles located in the north, because that is where the strongest currents occur, and thus greater amount of marine life. It is very important that divers always remain with his partner and together with the dive group to avoid separation. To protect the dive sites we should avoid contact with the seabed, and especially avoid damaging sessile organisms with fins. Also you can dive Gordon Rocks at the external walls who are plenty in invertebrate organisms of extraordinary colors and shapes, many of them endemic to the Galapagos Islands. The outer walls of the volcano are vertical and reach depths between 40 and 80 mts, so it is very important to maintain neutral buoyancy and be ready to go downstream. Gordon Rocks along with South Mosquera are considered the best places for advanced divers to see schools of hammerhead sharks.
